In line with the objective of CMDRR to enhance disaster resilience through community level action planning, VSFG working with the National Drought Management Authority, partners, National Government through the office of the County Commissioner, and the County Government through ward administrators have supported communities to develop their community DRR Plans (Consisting of Development Plans and Drought Contingency Plans).
A. Introduction
Each of the 12 communities supported by VSFG and CIFA through a participatory process led by their Community Disaster Management Committees developed DRR Plans in 2015 which were again reviewed by the committees in April 2017. These activities contribute towards one of the key results of the CAIDRR project which is to ensure that ‘capacities and systems for local preparedness, response to asset protection and management actions are improved’. Under this result, one of the key expected outcomes is review, consolidation and inclusion of community contingency plans into Marsabit County disaster management plans.
