Proration

For administrative purposes, membership is by the calendar year. Membership rates are prorated to account for when people join.

For new members, fees are calculated in the following way.

For 1-year memberships, the membership fee will be prorated quarterly with a percentage of fees paid based on the quarter in which the member joins. Thus:

Quarter Months Joined Percentage of Fee Paid
Q1 January - March 100%
Q2 April - June 75%
Q3 July - September 50%
Q4 October - December 100% (remainder of joining year is free; paying for full following year)

This proration applies both to individual and institutional memberships.

For 3-year memberships, the first year of the 3-year membership will be prorated per above.

Example 1: A person is interested in a 3-year membership at the top rate of $125 per year. With the standard 10% discount, this would be $337.50 (or $112.50 per year). The purchase membership is paid for in February 2019. Proration for 2019 with a February purchase is 100% (no discount), so the fee is $337.50. The membership would run through December 31, 2021.

Example 2: Like Example 1, but purchasing in August 2019. Proration for 2019 with an August purchase is 50%. The fee is $56.25 +$112.50 + $112.50, for a total of $281.75 (valid through December 31, 2021).

Example 3: Like Example 1, but purchasing in October 2019. The fee is $0 for Q4 2019 + $112.50 + $112.50 + $112.50 = $337.50 (valid through December 31, 2022).

Again, this will apply to both individual and institutional memberships.
