WWF-Myanmar works across two main landscapes and with multiple sub landscapes and is collaborating and working with partner CSOs and community focal points (community facilitators, educators, monitors) in implementing activities on the ground. The AW Ku AW Bwe project, under the country program of WWF-Myanmar, is working with communities in particular interests to empower in those components such as (1) agroforestry and community forest management (2) livelihood improvements and finally (3) the capacity buildings of partnered Civil Society Organizations which activates especially in the project areas. Under this project, the consultant is expected to perform the following deliverables by full commitments to respect WWF’s social safeguard policies.

Objective of the consultancy

The main objective of the consultancy is to support the forestry team on the design, implementation, and monitoring of agroforestry engagements that improve the food security and income of the population. The consultant is expected to have a continuous dialogue with both the targeted communities and internal sub departments which primarily aim to coordinate integral solutions for the beneficiaries and to support forest team in the identification, planning, and coordination of strategies with potential stakeholders and partners. 

Scope of work/major responsibility

The consultant will work with the Forest team to access the current agroforestry practices which come along with findings capacity gaps of community facilitators and agroforestry technicians and is expected to also develop a training curriculum which completely reflect the initial findings, to align with the demands of the project and to recommend the most potential demonstration plots. Eventually the consultant is also expected to do trainings of climate resilient and gender sensitive agroforestry practices with particular aim to project staffs, partnered CSOs’ representatives and the key trainee: agroforestry technicians whom are selected from the project villages.

Requirements
 

  • Master’s degree and bachelor title in agriculture/forestry or related studies with at least 10 years of experiences in the implementation of agroforestry projects (different combinations of education degrees can be considered based on their field experience). 
  • Strong applied work on ecosystems similar to those present in Myanmar.
  • Previous experience working in Myanmar is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of Myanmar and Karen language dialects is a valuable asset.
  • Proven understanding on research methodology, agroecology, agroforestry, and designing of agricultural calendars.
  • Awareness of the socio-political and economic context of the country.
  • Promoting team synergy in a multi-cultural work environment.
  • Demonstrating initiative and ability to identify innovative approaches.
