The Environmental Peacebuilding Association (EnPAx) will be holding its inaugural elections for its Board of Directors later this year and is seeking interested candidates to serve as part of the Association’s leadership beginning in 2020.
The first election will be for three (3) seats on the 11-member Board: One (1) Officer seat (Vice-President) and two (2) Director seats. Members elected to the Board of Directors will serve 3-year terms. Directors may be re-elected for one additional consecutive term, then must wait a period of at least one year before he or she may be eligible to commence serving another term. Members are welcome to self-nominate.
Members of the Board are responsible for making decisions and voting on the Association’s initiatives. These include (but are not limited to) administrative decisions, new projects and programs, and strategic directions. Each Board member has a specific portfolio of responsibilities and may serve on Subcommittees of their choosing. The specific portfolios depend on the needs and the Board member’s interest. The Board of Directors meets virtually 4 times per year (via conference calls), with other discussions taking place via email. Since the Association depends on a vibrant and engaged Board, it is important for Directors to be available, active, and responsive. While the time commitment to serve on the Board of Directors depends on the Board member and varies by task and time of year, it is usually 1-3 hours a month for Directors and 4-10 hours a month for most Officers.
Eligibility criteria for Officers and Directors of the Association are as follows: Candidates must be active members who (1) have paid dues; (2) are willing to serve if elected; (3) run for only one position; and (4) do not hold a position in another organization that could be considered incompatible.
The nominating period will be open from July 2, 2019 until August 15, 2019. Nominations should be submitted to the Election Committee via the Association’s Elections Portal and must include basic contact information and a statement:
Name
Title
Affiliation
Phone
Photo (optional)
Statement (including relevant experience and why interested) (maximum 300 words)
The Association aspires to have a Board of Directors that is diverse in terms of global geography, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, and professional and technical disciplines and experience.
Voting will be open electronically to EnPAx’s Membership from November 5, 2019 until November 26, 2019. Officers and Directors are elected by simple plurality vote, I.e. where there is only one candidate, by the affirmative vote of a majority of the members voting. Where there is more than one candidate for a position, the person having obtained the highest number of votes is elected. The Board expects to announce the election results to the Membership on December 3, 2019.
