The International Rescue Committee is a global humanitarian aid, relief, and development nongovernmental organization. The WASH assistant will be responsible for hygiene promotion in four structures in Kalemie. He / she will be mainly responsible for strengthening the capacity of IRC staff in Kalemie to ensure that hygiene promotion activities in health facilities are implemented in a rapid, professional manner and in accordance with the standards and needs of beneficiaries.
Roles and responsibilities
- Train IRC staff and hygienists in structures supported by maintaining hygiene in health structures. Contribute and facilitate the formation of hygiene committees in structures.
- Directly implement WASH activities in health facilities; this includes hygiene promotions within the center and the distribution of hygiene promotion materials.
- Strengthen the capacity of IRC staff in Kalemie and the hygienists of the structures supported by the treatment and monitoring of water quality, the preparation and use of different chlorine solutions and the IPC configuration procedure.
- Strengthen the capacity of the IRC staff in Kalemie and the hygienists of the structures supported by the cleaning and decontamination of health structures.
- Strengthening the capacity of IRC staff in Kalemie and the hygienists of structures supported by the cleaning and decontamination of reusable objects.
- Strengthen the capacity of IRC staffs in Kalemie and hygienists of structures supported on the management of biomedical waste, by aligning with national standards.
- Ensure daily / weekly monitoring of hygiene activities in health facilities, using IRC tools
- Ensure close coordination with the WASH Officer on water, sanitation, hygiene, water quality and the needs and preferences of beneficiaries with regard to water collection points.
- Take the lead on any evaluation, analysis and planning process on hygiene promotion using IRC tools.
- Directly manage daily hygiene promotion activities in supported health care facilities.
- Maintain complete control systems on materials and tools used in health structures
- Execute any other task assigned to him as necessary by his hierarchy.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Secondary level training,
- Could read and write
- Hospital work experience
- Can follow and understand written and verbal instructions
- Ability to work in an environment with pressure and / or stress
- Previous experience in the use of pressure spraying units, for example in the context of residual insecticide spraying campaigns, the use of pesticides on farms / plantations, etc.
- Previous work experience included one or more of the following:
- NGOs, especially in cholera control programs
- Hotel or kitchen cleaner

- Worker / garbage collector
