Environmental Cooperation as a Catalyst for Peace in the Middle East
Yana Abu Taleb, EcoPeace Middle East (Jordan)
The India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC) has been presented as a project of trade and connectivity, but it also holds the potential to shape new political and social realities. My presentation will focus on how introducing the idea of a “Peace Triangle” into IMEC could help build climate resilience, advance the two-state solution, and encourage deeper regional integration between Jordan, Israel and the future state of Palestine.
At EcoPeace, we have seen how environmental projects on water, energy, and climate can become more than technical solutions — they can act as catalysts for cooperation. I will share how cross-border initiatives, when designed to serve shared needs, can create interdependencies that reduce tensions, build trust, and offer people a stake in a more stable future. The Peace Triangle addition to IMEC demonstrates how peace, climate resilience, and regional cooperation can reinforce each other in practical ways.
