Peacebuilding and environmental practitioners have often worked in silos, each succeeding in their own space and barely cross pollinating. In many societies, the two practitioners barely engage and hence they have not developed common platforms of engagement and common tools of practice. This is despite the fact that addressing natural resource-based conflicts demands that peacebuilding and environmental matters are addressed within the same sitting. Though, this is rapidly changing as climate change impacts are demanding that matters peace and security, environment and natural resources find synergy and common ground to enhance sustainability of both peace and security, adaptation and mitigation efforts at the communities. In the Horn of Africa, partners are working towards ensuring that climate change practitioners and peacebuilding practitioners work together in selected projects that incorporate both peace and climate concerns, especially in regions affected by natural resource based conflicts. This round table seeks to discuss the efforts by various practitioners at bridging and cross pollinating matters environment and peacebuilding in the face of climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.
