Our goal in Nepal is to ensure sustainable WASH coverage at 100% of all 650 government schools within the Kathmandu valley by 2019.  Currently, we have worked with 150 schools, and a primary goal of this position would be developing the strategy to scale our hygiene program to reach all 650 schools.

The Health and Hygiene Manager-Nepal will lead and manage the hygiene department of Splash’s overall work in Kathmandu, Nepal. This position will be directly responsible for the management of the hygiene team, along with the strategic planning, implementation, coordination and documentation of the Hygiene Program delivery in government schools. The end goal is to create a strong program and empower the local team, so the management can be handed over and locally owned.

The H&H Manager-Nepal will collaborate with the Health and Hygiene Manager at headquarters, along with the managers working in the other Splash countries to set long term goals and share lessons learned. There will also be occasional travel to share and learn from the different country programs. This position will work under the supervision of the Health and Hygiene Manager based in Seattle, USA, with a secondary reporting line to the Nepal Country Director.

This full time position will be based in Kathmandu, Nepal with a one-year commitment and possibility for extension of an additional year

 Roles and Responsibilities    1. Program Design
  • Work with the Health and Hygiene Manager in HQ to design and test new initiatives, as well as create appropriate changes or additions to the existing Splash model
  • Engage with other agencies and stakeholders to identify collaboration efforts with regard to hygiene promotion and behavior change methodologies
  • Assist in planning for strategic scaling of the hygiene program from 150 existing sites to more than 650 public schools in Kathmandu valley

   2. Training and Capacity Building

  • Develop the skills and knowledge of the hygiene team through both office and field-level training and mentoring
  • Train the hygiene team on best practices of behavior change communication, as well as interpersonal communication, facilitation skills and classroom management
  • Build out the team’s ability to conduct long-term planning

   5. Reporting and Knowledge Management:

  • Manage the hygiene department staff (2 coordinators and 6 facilitators) and activities
  • Manage the hygiene budget and workplan
  • Conduct regular research on best practices to set hygiene promotion priorities and to ensure the program is based on sound field-evidence
  • Document curriculum to be shared externally
  • Help establish and strengthen monitoring and evaluation of hygiene program activities
  • Conduct semi-annual reviews, with regular check-ins of goals and objectives for the hygiene team
  • Share information regularly, both to the team and from the team to the Senior Management
  • Be an active participant within the Splash Nepal management team to ensure cohesion and collaboration across all departments
  • Oversee that the Splash project database is up to date with all Hygiene Program related activities
  • Formal grant reporting and documentation through stories, written reports and photos
  • Participate in regular Skype meetings (and occasional travel) with Splash’s global hygiene departments to share best practices and develop new programmatic initiatives
 Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (eg. Public Health, Behavioral Economics, Education, Community Development, Social Work, Sociology). Masters degree strongly preferred
  • At least 5 years of working experience and demonstrated knowledge on current trends related to behavioral change. A targeted emphasis on hygiene, sanitation, and/or handwashing is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively train and manage staff in a cross-cultural setting
  • Confident in designing, researching and expanding Health and Hygiene programs
  • Experience in curriculum design and teaching school-aged children preferred
  • International experience and cultural sensitivity

 Compensation and Benefits 

Annual salary for this position will be established at time of hire, and then reviewed at least annually. Splash provides generous health coverage benefits, moving stipend, as well as a 401k plan.
