The Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Development (DFATD) Canada is seeking the services of a senior environmental consultant with experience and expertise in international humanitarian assistance. The consultant will conduct strategic level analyses to assist DFATD in mitigating the environmental risks of the humanitarian assistance for which it provides funding. The specific TORs for the assignment are currently being finalized, and will be shared with short-listed candidates.
DFATD is requesting Expressions of Interest, consisting of CV and (max) 3-pg cover letter describing the consultant's qualifications in relation to the following selection criteria:
Demonstrated international caliber expertise in the environmental aspects of international humanitarian assistance (IHA).
- Strong knowledge and 1st hand experience of the institutional environmental capacities of key IHA organizations (e.g., Red Cross/ Red Crescent, WFP, UNHCR), relevant standards/ guidelines (e.g. Sphere), relevant frameworks (e.g. UNEPs)
- Previous experience in authoring strategic level environmental analyses
- Previous 1st hand “on-the-ground” experience in humanitarian crises
- Previous experience in delivery of training programs, preferably on humanitarian assistance-environmental issues.
- Relevant environment related education, preferably at post-graduate level
The expected Level of Effort is up to a maximum of 3 weeks. The work would be home/ desk based, but may include travel to Ottawa, Canada to conduct training sessions.
