The SI mission has been opened in February 2017, with emphasis on the Mosul response. The mission counts one coordination in Erbil (5 expatriates and 8 national staffs) and is in the process of opening a base in the Mosul area. There are 3 operational teams (30 staffs in total) in the different locations (Hamam Al Alil, Abu Saif and West Mosul) with small offices in the two first locations.
SI is currently running one WaSH project in West Mosul under the CDC stabilization funds. The activities are rehabilitation of secondary water networks, support household connection to the networks. A WaSH emergency project funded by IHPF and including the operation and maintenance of 2 emergency surface water treatment plants, the delivery of water through water trucking in 5 neighborhoods of West Mosul, and hygiene kits distribution has just bee ended.
Regarding the evolution of the context, the mission will aim at keeping an emergency WaSH component with ongoing research for development of new areas. In addition SI, as per its 2018 strategy aim at developing activities in other areas (such as Kirkuk and Anbar governorates), this emphasizing on emergency WaSH and early recovery (food security and livelihood) interventions.
ABOUT THE JOB
The Head of Mission is the official representative of SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL in Iraq. He/she is responsible for ensuring the mission runs smoothly overall, for its strategic relevance and for its operational relevance. The Head of mission monitors projects, ensuring that they are progressing in accordance with the Solidarités International charter and complying with internal and contractual procedures. He/She mobilizes the material and financial resources necessary for the programs to run effectively and supervises the administration of these resources. He/She coordinates the teams in place and ensures their security on the mission.

- Priorities for the 2/3 first months:
- Development of SI visibility and representation with the donor community.
- Enhance understanding of the operational environment to develop SI positioning
- Update security analysis of the intervention area and update security guidelines (Mosul, potential development towards West Anbar).

SI WILL OFFER YOU
Solidarités International will offer you:
- A salaried post: according to experience from 2530 euros gross per month (2300 base salary plus 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly 700 USD Per Diem
Social and medical cover: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which reimburses all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.
Vacation: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of one break every three months. For a one-year assignment, the expatriate will have a 7-day break during the 3rd and the 9th month (with 500 euros allocated by Solidarités). He or she will also be entitled to go back to his or her home country for a 14-day period after six months spent on the mission (Solidarités will cover travel costs).
LIVING CONDITIONS:
- Erbil security situation is stable, nevertheless, specific attention for female staff and movements on foot at night.
- Field security is volatile, with a strong presence of armed actors, and potential for security events.
- Good living conditions in Erbil: individual rooms, fully equipped guest house and office, possibility to walk in the neighborhood, lots of restaurant, no curfew. Nevertheless movements by foot for female staff alone at night are not allowed due to risks of harassment, dedicated taxi drivers are identified.
