The Chinko Project sustainably manages a nature reserve in the heart of Africa – one of the last pristine mosaics of wooded savannah and tropical lowland rainforest deep within the Central African Republic. The Chinko Project is recruiting a Special Projects Manager to support daily operations, manage donor grants such as USAID, European Union, private foundations and external relations in general. Working alongside the Park Manager, the Special Projects Manager is part of the senior management team and picking up Special Projects; managing anything from collaring of Elands, writing updates to donors, mange donors grants, recruitment of new staff and other tasks as they come up. The right candidate will be a strong planner, able to organize and prioritize multiple priorities and upcoming deadlines.

The Chinko Project is managing a 17,600Km2 nature reserve in the remote south eastern part of the Central African Republic. This is a highly complex and unpredictable operation, taking place in an active conflict zone. The Special Projects Manager must thrive in an ever changing environment, be able to manage projects successfully and independently from beginning to end, create and manage operational budgets and financial forecasts, organize annual work plans and monitoring systems.

Areas of responsibility

  • Assist and support daily operations such as, administration, logistics and finance as needed.
  • Organise Special Projects from start to end; write proposals, find funding, ensure the execution of the projects, and the reporting.
  • Be responsible for grants writing and reporting required by the Park Manager, African Parks Network and/or donors.
  • Assist in researching different solutions to the Project’s needs in general and in Special Projects.
  • Assist Park Manager with all admin needed such as writing of reports, letters etc.
  • Assist Park Manager in recruitment of senior staff.
  • Assist in developing of relationships leading to sponsorships/advertisements for the project.
  • Assist in representing the project towards the government, UN officials, diplomatic missions, NGO’s, journalists and other relevant partners.
  • Responsible for management of large/multiyear donors grants and regular reporting to institutional donors, such as USAID, EU, USFWS, private foundations and others.

Capabilities, competencies and experience required:

  • Excellent leadership and people management/team building skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong personal integrity and ability to work independently.
  • Able to find innovative solutions to difficult problems.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Proficiency in French and English language.
  • Experience with wildlife protection in Africa or work experience in Africa.

  • 2 years contract. (three months’ duty - one month off, rotation schedule).
