The Faculty of Landscape and Society invites applications for a doctoral fellowship in International Environment and Development Studies at the Department of International Environment and Development Studies (Noragric). The selected candidate is expected to start the doctoral studies in August/September 2017.
The Faculty has 1300 students and 180 staff. It consists of five sub-units, carrying out research and education in the fields of urban and regional planning, property management and law, landscape architecture, international environment and development studies, and public health.
The Department of Environment and Development Studies (Noragric) is engaged in education, research, institutional collaboration and assignments within international environment and development studies. The Department has a PhD programme, three Master programmes and a Bachelor programme. The Department has approximately 35 doctoral candidates and 380 students. Research at Noragric is organised within four research clusters: Climate Change, Agriculture and Development; Conflict, Human Security and Development; Environmental Governance; and Rights and Power in Development. Research project
The Faculty hereby invites proposals for PhD projects that develop new research on climate, conflict and food security within the broader field of International Environment and Development Studies. Priority will be given to creative and innovative proposals addressing “climate, conflict and food security” within or across the following thematic foci:
- Sustainability, climate resilient development pathways, and food security
- Political change, contestation and conflicts in the context of climate stressors and climate measures
- Social, political and cultural dimensions of agricultural transformation
The relationship between climate, food insecurity and conflict is complex and non-linear. Climate change and climate measures often take place in conflict/post-conflict/political transition contexts. At the same time, transformational change to systems, structures and practices is increasingly seen as necessary in order to move towards more climate resilient, sustainable and food secure futures. Such transformational change - include how beliefs, norms, values and worldviews influence institutional arrangements, decision-making processes, as well as policies and practices - is necessarily contested and conflictual. For example, changes in practices towards climate smart agriculture takes place within a context of changing social, economic and political relations. We are seeking proposals that address the conflict-climate-food security nexus from across this disciplinary spectrum.
Main tasks
