Global Witness invites candidates to help communicate and instigate with Global Witness, a dynamic international organization that investigates and campaigns to stop human rights and environmental abuses caused by corruption and the exploitation of natural resources.
As our U.S. Communications Manager, you will lead the development and implementation of an overall U.S. media and communications strategy for Global Witness, with the specific aim of:
- Generating more media coverage in the U.S. for Global Witness’ hard-hitting, in-depth investigations and advocacy
- Raising the profile of Global Witness and its impact with key audiences in the U.S., including policy-makers, thought leaders and philanthropic partners.
As our U.S. Communications Manager you will work closely with a team of global campaigners based in the U.S. and London as they conceive and create a comprehensive U.S.-focused communications plan that amplifies Global Witness’ international efforts. You will have the support of our London-based communications advisers, and will report to the Communications Director based in London, while leading communications efforts in the U.S.
We are looking for a candidate who will be excited about finding ways to introduce Global Witness’ muckraking work to new audiences in ways that both inform and inspire action. Attention to detail is a must and our ideal candidates should not only be able to write clean, fast, and well-sourced, but also be fluent in the visual grammar of new media.
Candidates should be comfortable navigating communications work that involves significant legal and reputation risks, and will be able to balance the need to grab media opportunities as they come with the equally important priority of protecting the integrity and security of Global Witness and its investigative work.
We invite you to help us expand our organization’s ability to conduct ground-breaking investigations and drive advocacy that will challenge corruption and conflict and better ensure that our natural resources are managed sustainably and for the common good.
If you want to take a look at an example of the type of exciting campaign communications that you would be involved with, you can watch our groundbreaking undercover investigation on anonymous companies that aired on 60 Minutes and was covered by the New York Times in January of 2016. Click here
