Iraq has managed to ratchet up oil production to record highs, against what would seem to be insurmountable obstacles. Despite political gridlock, a fight against ISIS militants, and the ongoing need to invest in critical infrastructure, Iraq has succeeded in boosting oil production above 4 million barrels per day (mb/d), with significant month-on-month increases over the course of much of 2015. That is enough to make it the second largest OPEC producer behind only Saudi Arabia.
