Afghanaid is an international humanitarian and development NGO that has worked alongside Afghan communities — currently including over one million adults and children — for over three decades.

Responsibilities are divided into two main categories: Directly responsible and Indirectly responsible. Direct responsibility include activities where the CRSA specialist is directly responsible for delivering. Indirect responsibility includes activities where a partner level staff is responsible for delivering, but the CRSA specialist is responsible for ensuring implementation by providing technical support and/or monitoring implementation.

Output 1: National and international policy makers and sub-national government have improved knowledge of eco-DRR and CRSA.

  • Build awareness among national and global policy makers and practitioners through participation in meetings, workshops and other fora at the national global levels (Directly responsible)
  • Develop factsheets, articles, policy briefs, presentations and films based on data, analysis, lessons learned, and best practice (Directly responsible)
  • Film screening/presentations to raise awareness of Eco-DRR and CRSA among provincial government staff (Directly responsible)
  • Training workshops and exposure visits for district ANDMA, DAIL and NEPA staff to build capacity in Eco-DRR and CRSA service delivery (Indirectly responsible)
  • Provincial and district government staff accompany ARC staff for activity implementation as 'on the job training (Indirectly responsible)

Output 2: Communities repair/maintain watershed management and disaster mitigation interventions implemented under CBED I, and replicate selected eco-DRR interventions.

  • Awareness raising of eco-DRR among non-nucleus communities using existing IEC materials (Indirectly responsible)
  • Exposure visits for non-nucleus communities to nucleus communities to see Eco-DRR interventions (Indirectly responsible)
  • Technical training for interested CBDMCs on soil and water conservation measures (Indirectly responsible)
  • Social and technical survey and assessments of the watershed sites (Indirectly responsible)
  • Develop watershed master plan for non-nucleus communities (Indirectly responsible)
  • Non-nucleus communities mobilise own labour and resources to implement selected Eco-DRR interventions, as per their watershed master plans (Indirectly responsible)
  • Technical support to non-nucleus communities in implementation of Eco-DRR interventions (Indirectly responsible)
  • Completion of plantation and vegetation in nucleus communities (Indirectly responsible)
  • CBDMC/WMC monitoring of watershed and disaster mitigation interventions (structures and plants) after floods and in summer (Indirectly responsible)
  • Analysis and lesson-learning with CBDMCs/WMCs if/when watershed and/or disaster mitigation structures are damaged (Indirectly responsible)
  • CBDMCs/WMCs trained to manage the repairs/replacements with technical and financial support from ARC (Indirectly responsible)

Output 3: School children gain knowledge and skills in disaster response, eco-DRR and climate resilient sustainable agriculture.

  • First aid training and distribution of first aid kits to schools (Indirectly responsible)
  • DRR and Eco-DRR education messages for schools (distribution of education posters and ToT for teachers) (Directly responsible)
  • Provision of water supply in schools without an existing water supply (Indirectly responsible)
  • Establishment of schools gardens/plantations to teach school children about climate resilient sustainable agriculture and biodiversity (Indirectly responsible)

Output 4: Men and women gain improved skills, resources, access to irrigation, and access to services for climate resilient sustainable agriculture and livestock.

  • Assessment and selection of sites for irrigation infrastructure (Indirectly responsible)
  • Construction of small-scale irrigation infrastructure (Indirectly responsible)
  • Improvement of irrigation efficiency (Directly responsible)
  • Training for men and women farmers in efficient irrigation/water use methods and technologies (Directly responsible)
  • Assessment to select main climate resilient crops (Directly responsible)
  • Community dialogue sessions to promote community acceptance of women's participation in economic life (Indirectly responsible)
  • Participatory appraisals to identify political and technical challenges relating to agriculture based livelihoods (Directly responsible)
  • Development of manuals and training materials (Directly responsible)
  • Training of trainers for project team (Directly responsible)
  • Identifying local knowledge, local alternative practices, and local innovation (Directly responsible)
  • Support men and women to form producer groups (Indirectly responsible)
  • Training for women's producer groups in women’s rights, empowerment and leadership (Indirectly responsible)
  • Distribution of agricultural/livestock inputs to men and women (Indirectly responsible)
  • Training for men and women in climate resilient sustainable agriculture and livestock production, followed by continuous support (Indirectly responsible)
  • Capacity building for agricultural extension service providers (DAIL and private sector)
  • Agricultural extension service providers and ARC jointly deliver agriculture trainings in target communities (Directly responsible)
  • Establishment of community grain and fodder banks (Indirectly responsible)
  • Construction of improved storage infrastructure (Indirectly responsible)
