Since 1994, the Environmental Change and Security Program (ECSP) has actively pursued the connections between the environment, health, population, development, conflict, and security. ECSP brings together scholars, policymakers, media, and practitioners through events, research, publications, multimedia content, and our award-winning blog, New Security Beat.

The Environmental Change and Security Program is seeking interns to:

  • Write for our award-winning blog, New Security Beat
  • Network with leading experts in the environment, development, and security field
  • Work closely with the friendly, dynamic “Green Team” at the Wilson Center

Assignments may include:

  • Researching and writing stories for New Security Beat and ECSP’s website
  • Assisting with events and conferences
  • Researching environment, security, development, global health, and demography topics
  • Assisting the preparation of publications and/or outreach materials
  • Performing administrative assignments in support of ECSP activities

Requirements

  • Potential interns should be students, prospective students (within the next year), and/or recent graduates (within the last year) with an interest in, coursework related to, and/or experience working on environmental and human security.

In addition, applicants should:

  • Possess strong research, writing, and/or administrative skills
  • Be detail-oriented
  • Be able to work both independently and as part of a group

ECSP will offer a part-time paid internship beginning January 2021. We are looking for candidates who can commit up to 20 hours per week to the internship from January to May 2021.

The Wilson Center is closely monitoring guidelines established by the CDC and other federal and state authorities surrounding COVID-19. In response, the Wilson Center has moved to a telework schedule until further notice. At this time, ECSP is currently offering remote internships and is assessing the viability of hosting interns in-person, on an ad-hoc basis, in Washington, D.C.

An individual selected for an internship will be expected to present proper evidence establishing his or her eligibility to work in the United States prior to being appointed. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires employers to hire only individuals who are eligible to work in the United States. Please note that we cannot sponsor a visa for you to work in the United States.

International students are eligible, but they must hold a valid F-1 or J-1 visa and appropriate work authorization.  All international students must obtain written permission from their Designated School Official (DSO) or Responsible Officer (RO) for visas at their university stating that they are in valid immigration status and eligible to do an internship at the Center.
