Call for Students: Master of Science in Security and Resilience Studies at Northeastern University

Oct 27, 2020 | Northeastern University

The Master of Science in Security and Resilience Studies at Northeastern University offers students the opportunity to gain skills to deal with resiliency challenges in both the public and private sector through coursework and experiential learning options.

Security and Resilience explores how strategic doctrines, organization processes, bureaucratic behaviors and security tools and tactics are adapting to these challenges by placing greater emphasis on resilience. Resilience is a concept rooted in multiple disciplines that is gaining widespread currency at the community, societal, and global levels given the prevalence of human-made and naturally-occurring threats that do not lend themselves to preventive and protective measures. Strategies for dealing with these threats emphasize measures that mitigate, respond to, recover from, and adapt to risk to safeguard essential functions and societal values.

Our graduates are currently employed in resiliency related fields in both public and private sector positions at agencies such as the U.S. Marshal Service, FEMA, Massachusetts Port Authority, the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, Response and Recovery Operations at the Boston Public Health Commission, and a variety of positions in private cybersecurity firms.

The program offers students the opportunity to undertake a six-month cooperative education (co-op) experience for qualified students in jobs related to security and resilience, including positions at City Hall, local NGOs, and private firms. If any prospective students have questions about our programs or curricula, please ask them to email our Graduate Program Administrator, Pete Morency, at p.morency@northeastern.edu or Prof. Daniel Aldrich <d.aldrich@northeastern.edu>

The program uses a rolling admissions approach and welcomes applications throughout the year.
