Tetra Tech International Development Services headquartered in Arlington, VA is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for the position of Rural Livelihoods Leader on a USAID-funded program in Republic of Congo.
The purpose of the Conservation through Economic Empowerment Activity is to stimulate the growth of sectors complementary to conservation objectives in the Republic of Congo and bring direct benefits to both conservation and communities adjacent to protected areas. In addition, this contract will focus on collaboration between a broad range of partners to increase access to markets and initiate agriculture and forest-based economic activities and opportunities that are consistent with sustainable stewardship of the forest and its resources.
Working under the direction of the Chief of Party (COP), the Rural Livelihoods Leader will be responsible for the development and implementation of rural livelihood strategies in the project landscapes. S/he will identify viable livelihoods options and support the development of relevant training and capacity building for community-based organizations such as producer groups and village planning committees. S/he will introduce the concepts of value chain and facilitate linkages between entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial groups consisting of smallholder producers of agriculture and forest-based commodities. S/he will also develop scopes of work and assist with analyses related to value chain strengthening and will develop market linkages, map out key marketing systems and engage market actors in relationships with community groups initiating market-oriented activities and link them with sources of finance. Support inclusive economic growth focusing on promoting an environment for private sector and micro-finance development. S/he will focus on promoting rural livelihoods that focus on enhancing capacities for climate risk mitigation and community based natural resource management.
Qualifications:
- University degree, preferably in Business, Finance, Agriculture, Climate-Smart Agriculture, or Agribusiness, with a strong knowledge of ecology, biodiversity, natural resource management or related subjects
- At least 5 years working experience relevant to the position;
- Experience/knowledge with training groups of people on business planning and financial management;
- Experience with implementation of the concept of value chain;
- Excellent collaboration and coordination skills required
- Experience with similar programs or relevant working experience in Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, or other Central African country;
- Excellent writing and communication skills in French;
- Proficiency in English.
