Palestinian Co-Director EcoPeace Middle East is a unique, 23 year old organization that brings together Jordanian, Palestinian, and Israeli environmentalists. Our primary objective is the promotion of cooperative efforts to protect our shared environmental heritage. In so doing, we seek to advance both sustainable regional development and the creation of necessary conditions for lasting peace in our region.
The board of EcoPeace Middle East is looking to hire a Palestinian national as its Palestinian co-director to lead all Palestinian related affairs of the organization and in partnership with the Jordanian and Israeli co-directors implement the regional strategy of the organization. The chosen applicant will show a strong familiarity with the environmental issues faced by the region, have first hand knowledge about the environmental situation in Palestine and show a deep understanding of the narrative of the ‘other’ in a manner that seeks to effectively contribute to conflict resolution. The chosen applicant will have strong links within Palestinian society, understanding the need to work with government while remaining constructively critical and independent. The chosen applicant will show a passion for sustainability with a deep commitment to peace.
Job Duties Include:
- Develop EcoPeace in accordance with the board approved regional and global strategy and the mandates provided to the country directors by the board.
- Lead EcoPeace in coordination with the other directors to develop a strong organization.
- Coordinate and consult with other directors on all matters that may affect other offices and the overall mission of EcoPeace.
- Lead and manage all activity and staff within the country of responsibility to ensure a high performing office with strong financial resources, efficient operating systems and professional and skilled staff in a manner that will strengthen the office as a local hub for EcoPeace.
- Take full accountability of finance/accounting, planning and budgeting, operations, project implementation, government, and stakeholder relations.
- Represent EcoPeace in its relationship with partners, government, donors, international and multilateral organizations, private sector, other NGOs and the media.
Qualifications:
The co-director will be thoroughly committed to the mission and vision of EcoPeace Middle East. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.
Ideal candidates would have a:
- Advanced degree, ideally a masters in environment, sciences, law, Middle East politics, international relations or related field, with at least 10 years of senior management experience; track record of effectively leading and regionally and/or nationally scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
- Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
- Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop highperformance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
- Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
- Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
