Liberia: Consultant

Jul 7, 2014 | Global Witness

We are seeking to commission some in-depth research on the agriculture sector in Liberia.   We would envisage that 2 consultants would be needed, probably an economist and a social anthropologist.

The research has three objectives:

1)        Determine how people currently use their land and forest, the broader ecosystem services they provide and what are the economic, social and cultural values of these uses and services.

2)        Determine the impact of an expanding palm oil concession on communities’ livelihoods.

3)        Determine what strategy or safeguards the government or and/or a palm oil company should adopt to ensure communities enjoy sustainable livelihoods.

The research methodology, including planned field work would be delivered to Global Witness within one month of commencement.  The Consultant would present Global Witness with a draft report outlining your data, findings and recommendations by 1 December 2014. Following feedback from Global Witness, complete a final publication in early January 2015. The report will be employed as a self-contained product that can be published without alteration by Global Witness. The Consultant should emphasize brevity, with the final report not to exceed 30 pages, including executive summary and annexes.

We are asking that interested parties tender for the work. We would like these to be submitted by Wednesday 9th July at 9 am.
