Program Officer - Economics

Working alongside the Senior Advisor for the Economics and Peacebuilding Center (EPBC), the Program Officer is responsible for providing general support to the EPBC program while pursuing and publishing his or her own research. This includes preparing programming proposals; assisting in ongoing research efforts; and helping to organize workshops and other activities. 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Development and Planning:

  • Manages a portfolio of USIP projects relating to specific regions, conflict zones, or academic areas (e.g., leads a team of staff working on the implementation of a program or programs, is responsible for meeting project goals and objectives, develops and presents on the status project goals and objectives, etc.).
  • Serves as a senior expert on one or more particular subject matter areas (e.g., conducts research; presents at conferences and workshops; provides advice and counsel to other public and private organizations; develops publications, training courses, workshops, training and educational programs and materials; conducts training courses and lectures).
  • Takes the lead role in development and planning for a program (e.g., designing program; developing program’s strategic plan, goals, objectives, and operating plan; designating appropriate resources required to support program goals and objectives, etc.)

Financial Management:

  • Supports the Senior Advisor in managing the program budget to ensure that the program is operating within its budget limitations in order to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Pursues external funding for project initiatives.

Public Outreach:

  • Builds strategic partnerships and cultivates contacts with subject matter experts and a wide variety of external organizations to leverage resources and combine efforts to promote USIP program initiatives and goals.
  • Attends and participates in various conferences, events, and other programs to speak on behalf of USIP on a specific subject matter area of expertise.
  • Takes lead role in responding to the public or media regarding specific program area.
  • Provides regulatory briefings to governmental or other organizations on key subject matter area.
