AGIAMONDO is looking for a trainer for ecological peacebuilding and interreligious dialogue (m/f/d), Nairobi, Kenya, to support the AOSK-Justice and Peace Commission in its ecological and interreligious peace work.

AGIAMONDO eV is the personnel service of German Catholics for development cooperation. In the Civil Peace Service (ZFD) it offer professionals the opportunity for meaningful service in cooperation with local development actors. The ZFD is a personnel program for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. He is committed to a world in which conflicts are settled without violence. Together with church and civil society partner organizations in Kenya, AGIAMONDO wants to make a contribution to civil conflict management there through peace-building measures.

The Job

The Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya (AOSK) was founded in 1962 and consists of more than 164 congregations uniting over 7,000 nuns in 25 dioceses of Kenya. In 1991 the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Commission of the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya was established. They deal with issues of socioeconomic, political and cultural injustice.

AOSK JPIC has made it its mission to change the situation in Kenya through education in the field of civil and human rights. The training of leaders, especially women, aims to strengthen their abilities to advocate for human rights, public order, pollution control and the sustainable use of natural resources, among other things.

Kenya is characterized by numerous regional, political and social conflicts. These are mostly based on access to natural resources, especially water and land. Kenya, as well as the rest of the Horn of Africa, are particularly affected by the effects of climate change. While global warming is leading to prolonged periods of drought in the north of the country, there is also a high variability in precipitation, which leads to severe soil erosion, floods and mudslides.

The climate crisis has the potential to exacerbate conflict as it exacerbates social conflict, negative political dynamics, and insecurity and fragility. Accordingly, the aim of the activity is to build capacities in the areas of ecological peacebuilding and inter-religious dialogue within the structures of the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya.

Specifically, the selected candidate will take on the following tasks:

  • Design and implementation of further education and training courses on ecological peace work and interreligious dialogue for the employees of the partner organization.
  • Development and implementation of context-oriented projects in the field of ecological peacebuilding at the community level.
  • Elaboration of a handbook on environment and peacebuilding and interreligious dialogue.
  • Proper spending and management of funds on site in accordance with donor guidelines and AGIAMONDO specifications. They work in partnership with the AOSK.

Candidate profile

  • The candidate has completed a master's degree in a relevant subject, e.g. environmental peacebuilding, sociology, peace and conflict research or religious studies.
  • The candidatet has practical experience in designing and conducting training, ideally in the field of ecological peace work.
  • The candidate can demonstrate knowledge in the implementation of programs for ecological peacebuilding. Experience working at community level is an advantage.
  • Additional experience in interreligious dialogue and research work is a plus.
  • The candidate has a category B driver's license and speak fluent English. Knowledge of Swahili is an advantage.
  • The candidate is an EU citizen or Swiss citizen, belong to a Christian church and identify with the goals and concerns of church development and peace work.
