The USAID-funded Forestry and Biodiversity Support (FABS) project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, implemented by Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest for a Communications Specialist. This position will be located in the main office in Kinshasa.

Working under the direction of the Communications Manager and CLA, the role of the Communications Specialist is to ensure effective and timely communication of project information. The Communication Specialist will support the implementation of the activity Communication and Information Plan including communication on activities, events, success stories, and other relevant communication tools. The position is full-time and based in Kinshasa, DRC.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the formulation of CARPE's communication strategy and the development of its action plan;
  • *With the support of the Communications Manager and CLA, produce, edit and distribute external communication materials, such as success stories, lessons learned, feature articles, press releases, project reports and results, project news, project blog, etc. ;
  • Support the organization of project communication activities including events, workshops, press conferences;
  • Working closely with the Communications and CLA Manager, implement the communications and outreach plan that promotes uptake of FABS-generated best practices, knowledge and learnings among policy makers and practitioners the entire region of Central Africa;
  • Develop a project communications information management system including media mentions, articles, quotes, and other relevant information;
  • Work with project technical staff to write articles, blogs, success stories, and other communication products;
  • Ensure FABS team adherence to the Branding Implementation Plan and Marking Plan and other USAID communications guidance;
  • Assist and represent the project in CARPE communications meetings as needed and other communications discussions with the donor as needed;
  • *Ensuring a liaison with the press organs identified by the activity;
  • Manage Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp accounts, and review their effectiveness and impact;
  • Manage the project contact database and mailing lists;
  • Provide communication training to staff, partners, and grantees, as needed;
  • Contribute to the development and drafting of work plans and project reports;
  • Ensure that communications activities are reported in the monitoring, evaluation, and learning system.

Qualifications:

  • *At least, a university degree in the field of communication and information technology (Bac + 4) required. 
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in communications activities in the context of a project or program funded by donors.
  • Skills in communications tools including writing communications materials (eg, success stories, articles, briefing notes, graphic design, newsletters, and fact sheets) are required.
  • *Experience required in the management of digital platforms, such as social networks
  • *Basic notions in photography, shooting and graphic design are desired
  • Knowledge and ability in developing materials to communicate program and project messages (eg, Powerpoint presentations)
  • Ability and experience with building the capacity of colleagues and partners in communications
  • Experience in the environmental and natural resources sector desired
  • Knowledge of branding and tagging requirements for USAID-funded projects.
  • A good knowledge of the media sector including radio contacts and preferred media.
  • Professional fluency in French is required. Ability to speak and write in English is preferred.
