Save the Children International (SCI ), a non-profit humanitarian organization with a focus on child welfare, is recruiting candidates for the vacancy mentioned below:
Purpose
Today children are born into a climate crisis. This is particularly true in Mozambique where children represent 51% of the population. Mozambique is facing several serious challenges: COVID-19, armed conflict and climate risks (floods and droughts mainly in the central and southern regions; cyclones in the northern and central regions). Climate change is among the biggest threats to children's survival, learning and protection. Without addressing the crisis directly, today's children in Mozambique will bear the greatest burden.
Save the Children (SC) in Mozambique is prioritizing climate change to protect children and youth from the effects of climate change and environmental destruction and to support their fight against climate change. Children and young people understand the gravity of this situation more than anyone else. We have a unique role in empowering the voices of children and youth and encouraging leadership in the climate movement. Our aim is to support young people and children – especially the most marginalized who are disproportionately affected by climate change – to be part of the solution and influence the decisions of international, national and local leaders.
In the recent past, we are witnessing an increase in youth interest, engagement and activism in relation to the climate agenda. Through climate strikes, etc., young people call on governments and other stakeholders to take collective action on climate change. With this context in mind, it is important to engage the voices of young people and identify actionable initiatives to lay the groundwork for ambitious climate action . Meanwhile, governments are also increasing their climate ambitions until COP27 , so the inclusion of young people is important .our priority.
SC will provide technical support to the Youth Climate Action Coalition (Y-CAC) in Mozambique, bringing together university students, children and Mozambican experts from academia, the private sector and government with relevant contributions to climate action policies and strategies.
