The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security.
FAO Myanmar supports communities in all aspects of agriculture development including ensuring that they have the capacity to reduce the risks, and are well prepared for effectively responds to food and agriculture threats and crises. FAO works on building resilient agriculture and food systems, ensures humanitarian policy coordination and liaises with humanitarian partners, co-leads Food Security Sector (FFS) with WFP, supports Food Security assessments and early warning activities. In line with FAO’s strategic objective to increase resilience of livelihoods to food and agriculture threats and crises (SO5), FAO Myanmar is implementing a number of projects in response to the recent crises in various States and Regions of Myanmar.
Reporting Lines
Under the general guidance of the FAO Representative and the Emergency and rehabilitation Coordinator, the direct supervision of the National Project Manager, and in close collaboration with National Agronomist, other concerned personnel of the project along with relevant national and international partners, the incumbent shall undertake the following tasks:
Tasks and responsibilities
- Support the Implementing Partners during the implementation of the project activities according to the Letter of Agreement and the project document;
- Support the monitoring of the project activities and supervise the Implementing Partners during the execution of the Letter of Agreement;
- Ensure that the Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) system is in place and functional according to FAO guidelines;
- Ensure visibility of FAO and the donor at the township, village tract and community levels according to the project visibility and communication strategies;
- Liaise with local authorities, UN Agencies, National and International Organizations present in the project areas
- Report weekly on the progress of the project, on the performance of the Implementing Partners and on any other issue that might be relevant to the project implementation;
- Translate relevant communications and documents from Myanmar to English and vice versa, as necessary;
- Perform other related duties and activities upon instructions from the Emergency and rehabilitation Coordinator.
Candidates will be assessed against the following
Minimum Requirements
- Myanmar national
- A Diploma in agriculture or livestock and recognized training in farmers training and agricultural extension (or related technical disciplines).
- A minimum of one year of working experience in transferring improved production, processing and marketing technologies through participatory research and extension approaches to farmers’ learning within the context of agricultural and rural development projects in Myanmar.
- Familiarity with the small-scale rice-based farming system.
- Knowledge of computer programme - Microsoft Office package.
- Fluency in Myanmar and excellent working knowledge of English required ;
Selection Criteria
- Relevant practical experience in rural development and extension approaches to farmers’ learning within the context of agricultural and rural development projects in Myanmar.
- Level of proficiency in English;
- Knowledge of local languages;
- Communication skill level;
- Degree of familiarity with operations under complex and sensitive contexts and preparedness to work with all communities;
- Demonstrated managerial experience;
- Demonstrated team work abilities.
- Team player.
Additional Selection Criteria
- Excellent knowledge of English is preferable and knowledge of local languages would be an asset.
- Knowledge of local languages would be an asset.
- Good managerial skills;
- Full command of text and spreadsheet programs;
- High sense of responsibility, willingness to take initiative, excellent communication skills and team spirit are important assets;
