Gender Equality Specialist (part-time consultant)
About the project
CowaterSogema International Inc. is recruiting for an upcoming project that aims to enhance the social and economic well-being of women and vulnerable communities in the renewable energy sector in Cuba.
Summary of Position
The Gender Equality Specialist will provide technical inputs into the development of project strategies and activities. They will have a key role in providing gender equality and related technical assistance to counterparts and will ensure gender mainstreaming throughout project activities.
Key Responsibilities
Technical
- Apply a gender-lens to the strategic and technical aspects of the project.
- Lead the design of gender equality related activities, including technical assistance.
- Contribute to the capacity needs assessment of key project counterparts and beneficiaries.
- Develop targeted and informed approaches to the capacity of counterparts and beneficiaries in aspects of gender equality, in line with the results of the needs assessment.
- Provide technical assistance and capacity building to key counterparts on applying gender equality to their respective work plans and strategies.
- As requested by counterparts, review strategies, policies and programs produced from a gender equality perspective.
- Support counterparts in the development of gender-responsive strategies, policies and programs.
- Where necessary, conduct training for a variety of stakeholders on gender equality and related topics.
- Ensure gender mainstreaming throughout the project, including with counterparts and community beneficiaries.
- Support the project team to apply principles of gender equality to their respective areas of work.
- Contribute to project reporting as directed by the Project Manager.
- Other project-related support to enhance gender equality, as required.
Job Requirements
Education:
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field, including gender studies, political science, development or another relevant discipline;
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience working on donor-funded development projects in Latin America, preferably Cuba;
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in gender equality or women’s empowerment-related field.
Essential Skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge of gender equality issues in Latin America, preferably Cuba;
- Experience providing training on gender equality and related topics;
- Experience in integrating gender in curriculum and/or courseware;
- Strong communication and diplomacy skills with the ability to speak/read/write in Spanish;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the renewable energy sector considered an asset.
