The Role

Addressing women’s land rights has been a core focus and an intervention area for Oxfam Pan Africa Program’s Strategy; and more specifically with projects for implementation within the Gender Justice and Women’s Rights Pillar. Pan Africa Program appreciates that there have been drastic inequalities in Africa in terms of access and ownership of land by women. As such, Pan Africa Program seeks to contribute towards a change with regards to landlessness by women by implementing women’s land rights projects that aim at securing and upholding the women’s land and property rights through enactment and implementation of legislative, policy and institutional frameworks.

It is in this regard that Oxfam International Pan Africa Program is looking for a Women’s Land Rights Programme Officer to implement the “Women’s Land Rights for Inclusive Development and Growth in Africa.”

The position holder will be responsible for the overall project implementation in countries and coordination of Focal Points’ activities of the EU funded ‘Women’s Land Rights for Inclusive Development and Growth in Africa (WIDGRA)’ project in respective target countries. The Job holder will be the main point of contact with the country focal points to implement and ensure the delivery of project activities that are led by Oxfam Pan Africa Program within the target countries.

Applicant

Our next Women’s Land Rights Programme Officer will require a range of skills and experience: significant knowledge of broader justice issues; and experience in promoting women’s rights including women’s land and property rights at national and regional level. The successful candidate should have experience on high level advocacy and policy influencing work at national, regional and international level, with the ability to develop and implement effective advocacy strategies, including strategies targeting the African Union (AU), Regional Economic Communities (RECs), multi-national corporations and international financial institutions. S/he should possess knowledge of international human rights law and voluntary guidelines relevant to international land acquisitions. You will have experience in people management, working with partners and managing multi-country advocacy programmes.
