The destruction of the world’s rainforests is one of our time’s biggest environmental disasters. Every year an area of 130 000 km2 of tropical forest disappears. Rainforest Foundation Norway is one of Europe’s leading organizations in the work to protect the world’s rainforests and strengthen the rights of indigenous peoples, in cooperation with local indigenous and environmental organizations in Southeast Asia, Central Africa and the Amazon. 

Rainforest Foundation Norway is a non-governmental organization working in 11 rainforest countries, together with more than 70 local partners.

We are looking for an Operations Manager for our recently opened Country Office in Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mission

Based in Kinshasa and  operating under delegated authority from the RFN Country Director, the Operations Manager’s functions will cover a broad range of issues : from financial and human resources management; procurement; IT; general administration; travel and logistics; common services; to security of RFN premises and staff. He/she will be ensuring organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for the organization's financial, administrative & logistic functions. The position holder shall foster a culture of accountability and ensure that organizational resources are used in the most cost-effective manner.

The Operation manager is also expected to develop and implement organizational strategies, policies and practices. Under delegated authority from the Country Director, the Operations Manager will be working closely with the operations support teams in Oslo to enable the smooth functioning of all core functions for RFN offices.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Country Director, establish and manage all operational processes for our DRC office in accordance to the national law and RFN policies, including finance, accounting, risk management, human resources, office administration, information systems, and facilities management.
  • In collaboration with the Headquarters, ensure all RFN partners follow sound financial and administrative guidelines and receive sufficient support to do so.
  • Manage the logistic-administration team.
  • Ensure that the Country Office sets up and follows a sound accountancy system, in accordance to national laws and RFN’s standards until the recruitment of our accountant.
  • Planning and budgeting for day to day operational effectiveness in conjunction with the relevant project managers.
  • Procurement of office and other supplies for the facilities in line with set procurement procedures.
  • Supervision and evaluation of service provides’ performance

Qualifications

  • Ideally a Master’s degree in business management, public administration or related field
  • At least 8+ years of relevant work experience in management and operations, including a minimum of 3 years in a managing position, ideally within an international non-profit organization.
  • Strong financial skills, with solid experience in financial planning, budget oversight, grants & contract management.
  • Excellent people manager, open to direction and collaborative work style, with an experience in working in a multi-cultural/international environment.
  • Knowledge of Congolese labor law, tax and other compliance implications of non-profit status is a strong advantage.
  • Detailed oriented & highly organized individual with a strong commitment to get the job done.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and French. Knowledge of one of the DRC national languages will be appreciated.
