Tetra Tech ARD is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates to join its roster of experts for short term consulting assignments supporting the development of food security and climate change projects for clients.
Position Description/Summary:
Climate risks disproportionately affect the most vulnerable and food insecure people, for whom even a small weather event can quickly escalate into a food and nutrition crisis. The poorest people are more exposed than the average population to climate-related shocks such as floods, droughts, and heat waves, and they lose much more of their wealth when they are hit (World Bank, 2015). More than 80 percent of the world’s 795 million hungry people (SOFI, 2015) live in countries prone to natural hazards with high levels of environmental degradation (EM-DAT, 2014). Climate change could increase the risk of hunger and malnutrition by up to 20 percent by 2050 (IPCC, 2014).
To help its clients address this significant challenge, Tetra Tech is expanding its roster of mid-career and senior short term technical experts to meet a growing demand for specialized technical assistance in food security and climate change. Tetra Tech is seeking expertise in the following areas:
Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Community emergency planning, preparedness and response
- Inter-agency emergency preparedness, planning, and response
- Building national disaster management authority (NDMA) capacities in climate risk management
- Integrating climate risk management into food security-related emergency management, preparedness and response systems
- Assessment of climate risks to effective emergency management (e.g. procurement, transport, logistics, coordination) systems
Food Security Analysis, Early Warning and Climate Services
- Food security, nutrition and climate risk analysis.
- Food security-related climate services – design, piloting, implementation, and policy support
- Linking climate risk analysis to national and regional climate, food security, agriculture, and disaster risk reduction policy making
- National and local level early warning and early action to reduce the impacts of climate risks on food security.
- Integrating (short term to seasonal timescale) climate information into food security early warning and monitoring systems.
Community Resilience, Risk Reduction, Social Protection and Adaptation
- Community resilience-building, livelihoods and disaster risk reduction program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
- Food assistance programming to support climate change adaptation, resilience building and disaster risk reduction programming.
- Shock-responsive and adaptive social protection
- Food security adaptation programs
- Integrated risk management programs
- The use of insurance and other risk transfer tools to support adaptation and food security programs
- Forecast-based financing
Policy Support
- Policy support to national governments developing policies and plans (NAPs, NDCs, etc.) to address the impact of climate risks and climate change on food security and malnutrition.
- Policy support to the UNFCCC and other regional and international processes related to food security, climate change, resilience and loss and damage.
To be considered applicants must submit the following as part of the on-line process:
- Cover Letter
- CV in reverse chronological format
- A list of at least 3 professional references including name, contact information, and statement of relationship to the reference.
Applications that do not meet the minimum requirements listed above will not be considered. Please ensure that all necessary documents are uploaded, as incomplete applications and/or corrupt files may delay processing of your application or remove you from consideration.
