Rights and Resources Group is a non-profit organization that serves as coordinating mechanism for the Rights and Resources Initiative, a global coalition to advance forest tenure, policy and market reforms.

This position requires flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively with regional and thematic teams in a dynamic environment, while ensuring that work is completed within established deadlines. We are looking for a dedicated Intern who will take initiative, demonstrate responsibility, and become an integral part of our small and passionate team. This is a part-time, paid internship based in Georgetown, Washington D.C., with compensation at a competitive hourly rate based on skills and experience. The internship will on average require the individual to work 20-30 hours per week. Given the nature of our work, there will be periods of time where the required commitment will increase.

This individual will report directly to the Director of the Gender Justice Initiative and work in coordination with RRI’s regional programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist the Gender Justice Program with communications and outreach

  • Synthesize study findings, event outcomes, and other initiatives related to gender;
  • Provide written translation as needed;
  • Conduct desk research as-needed to support developing projects;
  • Assist in drafting, translating, and editing brief documents on tenure rights, REDD+, forestry, gender, sustainable enterprises, and related themes, as requested;
  • Draft emails/communications to project teams;
  • Draft content for RRI’s blog, website, and/or social media channels.

2. Assist the Director in preparation of the annual contracting process:

  • Assist in reviewing project contracts, proposals, and deliverables as requested for the implementation of RRI’s 2018 Gender Justice strategy;
  • Assist team in processing payments to grant recipients and consultants;
  • Assist in drafting and editing project contracts according to organizational and donor protocols.

3. Provide general administrative support for the Gender Justice team;

4. Assist in the coordination of conferences and events, and willingly undertake other tasks as requested, including:

  • Support budget management;
  • Interact with and support project researchers, and manage data for project;
  • Support logistics for convenings spearheaded by the Gender Justice Initiative.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or comparable field of study highly preferred;
  • Professional fluency in French is strongly desired;
  • Exceptional organization and planning skills, with meticulous attention to detail;
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and projects (in both the short and long term);
  • A self-starter who can prioritize competing demands and demonstrate responsibility;
  • Excellent writing, research, and communications skills:
    • Ability to write clear, concise, and grammatically correct content for outreach and reporting
    • Ability to edit and summarize text written by others, and to make complex text more accessible without compromising message and content.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with courteous and professional manner and respect for other cultures;
    • Knowledge of gender justice and/or natural resource tenure issues preferred;
    • Strong computer skills (specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access) and internet savvy.
