We are currently looking for Hydrologist to be based in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Role

The key role and responsibilities of this position includes hydrological assessment related the the project, develop the master drainage basin plan, facilitation of weather forecast and flood related early warning, coordinate with other SIDA-ARC project specialists to investigate on impact of climate changes or water and natural respources. The post holder as well support team in   hydrologic and hydraulic reports and studies, undertake required studies and surveys and develop GIS hydrological and flood risk maps. He/she support the review and development of the projects related plans and provide technical support to project related team in design and review of hydrologic related issues of the project. Designe and conduct related trainings to the ARC project related staff.

The event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Qualifications

Focus on efficient water management and work collaboratively with geotechnical, environmental and mining specialists. Finding a balance between meeting regulatory compliance and cost savings requires innovative thinking. This includes the conjunctive use of surface, groundwater and recycled water; collecting baseline surface and groundwater data early on in an exploration project, including borehole water levels, surface flows and water quality data; and integrating each water component with the total mine water system. We bring a sound understanding of the process and tailings circuits, and integrate this with climatic data, and recycling opportunities to form an interactive range of water balances which are responsive to process and seasonal and climatic variations pertinent to a mine at any time.

Examples of our services are: baseline studies, studies linked to flood prediction, water balance modeling, slope stability design (pressure distribution and depressurization), water supply, mine dewatering, seepage control and contamination assessment, diversion structures ( storm-water controls and spillways), water treatment, permitting and licensing etc.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in hydrology, hydrogeology, geology, watershed management.
  • Five years of professional experience in hydrology, hydrogeology or watershed management.

Desirable

  • Applying hydrologic and hydraulic principles and making calculations
  • Reviewing hydrologic/hydraulic reports for accuracy and technical sufficiency
  • Gathering and analyzing hydrologic/hydraulic data
  • Applying hydrologic and hydraulic principles and making calculations.
  • Coordinating diverse hydrological activities.
  • Gathering and analysing project Hydrological related data.
  • Use of computer-based resources to create, maintain, manipulate and report/data..
  • Reading and interpreting topographic maps, aerial photos, legal descriptions, sketches and graphs
  • Specifications and formats for hydrologic reports;
  • Having skills and knowledge of working with several organizations in the same time for a single project.
