SEOUL, South Korea — A North Korean patrol boat crossed a disputed western sea border with South Korea on Friday and retreated after warning shots were fired by the South Korean Navy, according to the South’s military.North Korea does not recognize the disputed sea border known as the Northern Limit Line, and its patrol ships have occasionally crossed it, often to prevent its own fishing boats from drifting across the line or to pursue Chinese fishing crews deemed to be operating illegally in the area. But in recent years, the North has also fired artillery shells or sent warships across the line, triggering naval skirmishes in what have been seen as attempts to bolster its claim to waters south of the disputed border.
