Outward Bound Peacebuilding
The Practicum on Experiential Peacebuilding (PEP) is a program that combines a unique outdoor experience with experiential learning techniques in a multi-cultural environment. During this ten day expedition, participants will spend time backpacking in Cotpaxi National Park with 10-12 strangers from around the world. The experience will include a cultural experience with indigenous people from Ecuador, an overnight solo, and a breathtaking rappel. Along the journey, participants will learn and practice leadership skills, challenge their own perspectives, explore relevant peacebuilding topics, and develop meaningful relationships with participants who share similar commitments to peace and human dignity.
Dates: June 13 – 22, 2014
Location: Andes Mountains, Ecuador
Activities: Backpacking and cultural immersion with Quechua community
This course will take place in the Andes Mountains in Ecuador. Participants will start at elevations of 2700m and possibly go up to 4300m depending on the group. Participants should be prepared for a physically and mentally challenging experience with temperatures ranging from 32-68 degrees F/0-20 degrees C. Participants will be camping, backpacking (packs weighing up to 20-25 KG) and sleeping outdoors.
