Nominations Closing Soon for Young Professional Position on the Board of Directors for the Environmental Peacebuilding Association (Deadline: 2020-02-01)

Jan 10, 2020 | Environmental Peacebuilding Association

The Environmental Peacebuilding Association (EnPAx) aspires to have a Board of Directors that is diverse in terms of global geography, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, and professional and technical disciplines and experience. Toward that end, EnPAx will hold a special election for a young professional position on the Board of Directors and is seeking interested candidates to serve as part of the Association’s leadership beginning February 2020.

The election will be for one (1) Director seat reserved specifically for a Young Professional who is in good standing with the Association. The rights and responsibilities associated with this Director will be indistinguishable from the other Directors:  all Directors serve 3-year terms, may be re-elected for one additional consecutive term, and if they serve two consecutive terms they must wait at least one year before being eligible to commence serving another term.

Members of the Board are responsible for making decisions and voting on the Association’s initiatives. These include (but are not limited to) administrative decisions, new projects and programs, and strategic directions. Each Board member has a specific portfolio of responsibilities and may serve on Subcommittees of their choosing.  The specific portfolios depend on the needs and the Board member’s interest. The Board of Directors meets virtually 4 times per year (via conference calls), with other discussions taking place via email. Since the Association depends on a vibrant and engaged Board, it is important for Directors to be available, active, and responsive. While the time commitment to serve on the Board of Directors depends on the Board member and varies by task and time of year, it is usually 1-3 hours per month for Directors. This specific role also requires regular engagement with and reporting to the Young Professionals Interest Group.

Eligibility

Eligibility criteria for the Young Professional member of the Board of Directors of the Association are as follows:

  • Candidates must be active members who (1) have paid dues; (2) are willing to serve if elected; and (3) do not hold a position in another organization that could be considered incompatible.
  • Candidates should be no older than 35 years at the time their term would commence.
  • Candidates should exhibit a commitment that if elected they will engage actively with the Young Professionals Interest Group throughout the period of their term.

Nomination of Candidates

Candidates may be (1) nominated by other Association members in good standing, or (2) self-nominated. The nominating period will be open from January 10, 2020 until February 1, 2020. Nominations should be submitted to the Election Committee via the Association’s Elections Portal and must include:
