The aim of the DRC Stand-by Roster is to mobilize qualified and committed humanitarian experts for deployments to our UN partners thereby strengthening the capacity of the UN organizations for more timely, effective, and accountable humanitarian response to people affected by crises. For more information please visit our website

We are looking for candidates with the following expertise

  • A minimum of 4 years direct professional experience in climate and/or environment science, or 4 years direct professional experience in humanitarian response, and preferably a combination of both.
  • A minimum of 3 years international experience in the field in humanitarian, development, climate, or environment science.
  • Ability to integrate climate and environment considerations across sectors in humanitarian response.
  • Familiarity with environmental assessment tools, and carbon audit techniques.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian standards, tools and guidelines, and their linkages to environment.
  • Familiarity with management of humanitarian operations and programming in crises.
  • Ability to coordinate with international and local agencies involved in humanitarian contexts.
  • Proficiency in one (preferably two) official UN languages. English is mandatory, while French, Spanish or Arabic is considered a strong advantage. Other languages will also be considered an advantage.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the complexities involved in refugee and IDP responses.
  • Relevant educational background required and United Nations experience an advantage.

The following requirements are necessary for membership of the DRC Stand-by Roster:

  • Motivation for a continuing career within the international humanitarian field.
  • Committed to being an active member of the DRC Stand-by Roster for a minimum of 3 years (see conditions on our Roster Recruitment page).
  • Informed and in agreement with the salary and compensation package for Stand-by Roster members during deployment (see link below).

All applicants must send a cover letter and an updated CV or P11 form. Additionally, please include performance evaluation reports, if possible. All documents should be uploaded in the online application system under the section "documents".

Deadline for applications is Friday 22nd November 2019 at 23:59 CET.

Screening and selection process

Applications are screened before and after application deadline. Long-listed candidates may be invited for an online test and will be asked to submit contact details for 3 references, who may be contacted any time during the recruitment process. If test results are satisfactory, the candidate may be invited for an interview over Skype. A conclusion on the roster membership will be taken following the interview and feedback from referees. We expect the process to take place from November 2019 – January 2020.
