The Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame, one of the world's leading academic centers for the study of the causes of violent conflict and strategies for sustainable peace, invites scholars, educators, and practitioners to submit papers for a conference on the state of the field of peace research and practice, and the nexus between them. The conference is designed to animate conversations about synergies and contestations between theory and practice, the field and the classroom, and different local, national, regional, and global orientations towards peace. The overall goal of the conference is to generate innovative approaches to the study and practice of peacemaking and peacebuilding, including effective strategies to confront current injustices in the world.
The conference will take place at University of Notre Dame on 8-10 November 2019. It will be organized around four overarching themes and submissions relating to each of these four areas are welcome: Understanding Violence, Peacemaking, Confronting Injustice, and Building Peaceful Societies.
We welcome the submission of single papers, organized panels, and roundtables that focus on one or more of the conference’s four themes and that engage with cutting-edge peace research and/or practice. We are particularly interested in submissions that explore tensions and/or synergies between theory and practice, the field and the classroom, and the different local, national, regional, and global orientations towards peace. We encourage practitioners to submit proposals for panel discussions or papers that focus on their applied work and its relevance to the field of strategic peacebuilding. We also welcome proposals for video conferences or webinars with other peace institutes, peacebuilding organizations, and practitioners around the world to be held during the conference. In order for a proposal to be considered, the application must include contact information for a partner or individual who be available to coordinate the webinar in the suggested offsite location.
