Seeking Scholars for Workshop on QCA in Research on Environment, Conflict, and Peace (at the First EnPAx Conference)
Dec 21, 2018
Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) is an emerging method in the social sciences. It is able to disentangle complex and context-dependent causal links, integrating quantitative and qualitative data and serving as a bridge between in-depth case and large-N studies in multi-method research designs. QCA is hence well-suited for studying the interlinkages between environment, conflict, and peace.
I am seeking to organize a training workshop on QCA at the First International Environmental Peacebuilding Conference, to be held at the University of California, Irvine from October 23 to 25 2019. This workshop would serve two main goals. First, it will provide a brief introduction into the method of QCA. In this context, the main principles and steps of a QCA will be explained and illustrated with examples from environmental security research. Second, scholars are invited to bring their own project ideas and papers for discussion and feedback by experienced QCA users.
Scholars with experience in using QCA in this research field are invited to contribute, for instance by presenting their own research or by giving a brief introduction into a specific aspect of QCA. In case you are interested, please contact Tobias Ide (ide@gei.de) no later than February 8.
