Jon Barnett is professor and Australian Research Council future fellow in the Department of Resource Management and Geography at Melbourne University, a lead author for the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (Working Group II, Chapter 12), and coeditor of Global Environmental Change. This perspective is an abridged version of the second Al-Moumin Distinguished Lecture on Environmental Peacebuilding.

The Al-Moumin lecture series is part of a broader effort by ELI, UNEP, AU, and other institutions to foster analysis and dialogue regarding the connections between conflict, peace, and the environment, including a book series examining the role of natural resources in post-conflict peacebuilding.
