The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), in collaboration with the Homeland Infrastructure Foundation Level Data (HIFLD) Members and the World Wide Human Geography Data (WWHGD) Leaders announce a combined HIFLD/WWHGD working group meeting at NGA Campus East (NCE) in Springfield, Virginia from 30 September to 01 October 2014. The two days will focus on “Water and Water Security - Resource, Hazard, Human Security, National Security, Navigation, Infrastructure & Interdependencies and Innovation". The meeting will cover both domestic and global water and water security issues.
Keynote speakers will be Mr. Craig Fugate, Administrator, FEMA; Ms. Mary Landry, RADM (ret), USCG Director of Incident Management & Preparedness Policy; and Dr. Lee Schwartz, Geographer of the United States, Department of State. Throughout the meeting, experts in the field of water and water security will participate in panel discussions on Visualizing and Analyzing Water Needs of the Future, Water as a Resource, Water as a Natural Hazard, Water for National Security, Water for HADR / Human Security / Displaced Populations, Interdependencies on Water, and Water for Navigation. The detailed agenda will be distributed in early September. This meeting will be held at the unclassified level.
Registration for the event is now open at https://www.hifldwg.org/ or http://wwhgd.org. Seating is limited and early registration is needed. If you are planning to attend in person and via webinar, please register by Sep 22. If you cannot participate in person, a webinar with audio and slide presentations will be available. In addition to the information below, logistics and maps will be posted on both websites.
Location Details: NGA Campus East (NCE) — 7500 GEOINT Drive, Springfield, VA, 22150
Restricted & Prohibited Items: Please note that NGA is a secure government facility and the following items are not allowed inside the building: PDAs, cameras, cell phones, tablets, two way pagers, laptops, iPods, and any recording or other device that can transmit data (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, etc). USB thumb drives and any other type of storage devices are also prohibited. Please leave these devices at your hotel or in your car.
Entrance to NCE: Please ensure that you bring a valid government issued form of identification (e.g. driver's license, passport or CAC) Passport or CAC is preferred for check-in.
Food & Drink: There will be no refreshments provided. NGA hosts a number of eateries and coffee shops, including Dunkin' Donuts. These are located at the NGA atrium level. However, please note that food and beverages are not permitted in the William Allder Auditorium, where the working group will be held.
Parking (Visitor Parking Lot and Overflow lot): The Visitor Lot will be open to the WWHGD and HIFLD attendees until 8:30 AM. After 8:30 AM parking will be open to all NGA visitors. A parking pass will be emailed prior to the meeting, please print the parking pass and put it in the window of your car. Mass transportation is highly recommended due to limited parking.
