3rd Climate Change and Population Conference on Africa (CCPOP)

Jul 22, 2014 | Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS)
University of Ghana, Legon - Accra, Ghana

This development knowledge conference is intended to break the huge barriers that have existed amongst potential stakeholders over the years. It represents a call for state and non-state actors from industry including manufacturing and ICT, private businesses, and civil society to join researchers to pursue a new partnership agenda on threats posed to humanity by climate change.

As the theme depicts, this year’s conference is geared towards providing a common platform to pay strong attention to the climate change, migration and security nexus. Studies have shown that a range of demographic, social, political economic and environmental factors contribute to migration. However emerging findings suggest strong linkages between climate change and increased internal and cross-border human movement. What linkages exist between climate change and migratory patterns within the African context? Be it migration within or without borders, what are the implications for human, health, food and livelihood security?

You are invited to be part of this undertaking to boost understanding and awareness of the linkages between climate change and migration, and the implications for security on the continent.  Share your thoughts and strengthen the case for strategic thinking about policy that factor climate change induced migration and its security concerns.
