Transforming Power to Put Women at the Heart of Peacebuilding

This webinar launches a series of discussion papers from Sub Saharan Africa, MENA and the Pacific on what feminist peace and security is. As we approach the 20th Anniversary of UN Resolution 1325 on women peace and security, we will look critically at the agenda and discuss why progress for women’s rights in peace and security, decision-making and leadership has stagnated and how past gains are under threat.

A landmark resolution on Women, Peace and Security, Security Council Resolution 1325 (SCR1325), was unanimously adopted by United Nations Security Council on 31 October 2000. SCR1325 marked the first time the Security Council addressed the disproportionate and unique impact of armed conflict on women; recognized the under-valued and under-utilized contributions women make to conflict prevention, peacekeeping, conflict resolution, and peace-building. It also stressed the importance of women’s equal and full participation as active agents in peace and security.
