COLOMBIA ARC: A series of dialogues on environmental peacebuilding in Colombia
This second session of the series will cover issues related to climate legislation, environment Justice, and ecological, systems-based and other-than-human jurisprudence in post-conflict Colombia. Presenters will use comparative examples that would be of great interest in the context of Environmental Peacebuilding in Colombia.
The event will host three legal scholars:
- GLORIA AMPARO RODRIGUEZ, Professor of Law at Universidad del Rosario, Bogotá, and adjunct judge of the Constitutional Court of Colombia;
- IVAN VARGAS, Lawyer, National University of Colombia, Ph.D. candidate in Natural Resource Sciences at McGill University, Montreal; and
- JONAS EBBESSON, Chair of the Compliance Committee of the UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention)
The webinar will be moderated by MIGUEL ROJAS SOTELO, Adjunct Professor in International and Comparative Studies and Program Coordinator for the Duke University Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
This is a bilingual event (Spanish/English). Simultaneous interpretation will be available.
This event is part of the Road to Geneva's Colombia Arc, a series of dialogues on environmental peacebuilding in Colombia. The Colombia Arc features events starting in August 2020, including a set of webinars organized by the Environmental Peacebuilding Association (EnPAx), Duke University Center for International and Global Studies/Rethinking Diplomacy Program (DUCIGS/RDP), the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), and the Environmental Law Institute (ELI).
The conversation will be hosted via Zoom at 9:00am (BOG)/10:00 (Eastern Time). The webinar will run for 90 minutes, with each presenter having a 10 minute intro, followed by a 30 minute discussion among the speakers, and finishing with an audience Q&A. The webinar will also feature simultaneous translation. The recording will accessible to EnPAx members in the EnPAX library.

Esta segunda sesión del seminario Construcción de Paz y Medio Ambiente, abarcará temas relacionados con la legislación climática, la justicia ambiental y la jurisprudencia ecológica, basada en eco-sistemas y lo no-humano en la Colombia del posconflicto. Los ponentes utilizarán ejemplos comparativos que serán de gran interés en el contexto de la Construcción de Paz Ambiental en Colombia.
El evento presenta acogerá a tres académicos legales:
- GLORIA AMPARO RODRIGUEZ, Profesora titular de Derecho en la Universidad Del Rosario, Bogotá y juez adjunto de la Corte Constitucional de Colombia;
- IVAN VARGAS, Abogado, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Candidato a doctor en Ciencias de los Recursos Naturales en la Universidad McGill, Montreal; y
- JONAS EBBESSON, Presidente del Comité de Cumplimiento de la Convención de la CEPE sobre Acceso a la Información, Participación Pública en la Toma de Decisiones y Acceso a la Justicia en Asuntos Ambientales (Convención de Aarhus)
