Second in a Multi-Part “Human Geography and Water” Webinar Series:
Transboundary Waters and Data for Water Diplomacy Across Geographies
Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Eastern / 7 a.m. Pacific / 2 p.m. GMT
Please join the World-Wide Human Geography Data (WWHGD) Working Group for a multi-part webinar series where speakers will discuss the relationship between Human Geography and Water highlighting the data and mapping necessary to better understand global and local impacts. During this series we will provide a forum for experts in human geography, hydrological mapping, and water resource management to:
• Explore the role GIS plays in water and human security and how it is being used by the community to provide data for decision making to water stressed areas.
• Discuss data-driven solutions in the areas of water vulnerability and human resiliency.
• Analyze the potential geographic impacts to the human populations of transboundary waters.
• Address and discuss how changes in urbanization are impacting access to water and the data necessary to understand these changes.
• Evaluate the issues facing water resources management and impacts to populations concerning aging water infrastructures.
The WWHGD is co-led by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the U.S. Department of State. The WWHGD Working Group seeks to build voluntary partnerships across the Human Geography data and mapping communities with the goal of promoting Human Security.
WWHGD Working Group events draw together U.S. Government agencies, academic institutions, international governments and organizations, non-governmental organizations, and private sector audiences to discuss wide-ranging topics such as climate change, demographics, food security, infectious disease, and language mapping. The Working Group has more than 4,800 members from more than 80 countries to help facilitate the exchange of open data for all aspects of Human Security.
These events are an opportunity to collaborate and strengthen the WWHGD community. We share methods, information and mapping data from excellent speakers about new research and resources, and we discover,
discuss, and distribute impactful datasets.
