We live in turbulent times with wildly shifting environmental parameters. How can nature be a healing and restorative force for humanity and help mitigate pressures that drive or result from conflict? Join us on a deep dive into the role of well-governed and managed natural resources in a world that in 2020 seems both divided and connected.
Description
Paradoxically, in a world so connected it is measured in ‘clicks’, the number of countries involved in ‘violent conflicts’ is the highest in 30 years, and more than 68 million people have been forcibly displaced, almost half of them due to conflict (UNHCR). This is the context for our dialogue which will explore how integrating well governed natural resources management in conflict prevention, mitigation, resolution and recovery can build resilience in communities and foster peace and security. The dialogue will challenge us to find answers at a time when the planetary crossroads are no longer looming, but are here. How could the potential of a large scale human environmental migration crisis play out for nature? Are we prepared for this? What are the tools at our disposal to better govern, manage and conserve natural resources? What are the big new ideas and creative solutions that can retain and restore biodiversity, as well as reconnect people to build peace and security?
