Advancing Reporting on Responsible Minerals Sourcing

And to support its use, GRI and the RMI invite you to join a webinar on the subject. ​Although consumers may not realize it, minerals are ubiquitous in everyday products. Minerals such as tantalum, tungsten, tin and gold (3TG) and cobalt are essential components to our mobile phones, computers and cars. And the companies that produce those products are being scrutinized more and more about the effects of mineral extraction and trade in their value chains. 

For companies that have mineral sourcing in their supply chains and that would like to meet the reporting expectations of stakeholders which go beyond regulatory compliance, GRI and the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI)’s toolkit “Advancing Reporting on Responsible Minerals Sourcing” will provide helpful guidance.  

With GRI’s concept of materiality, companies can best understand how stakeholder interest or significant impacts render topics related to mineral sourcing material for sustainability reporting. Companies can also find resources for reporting on their due diligence and supportive measures taken, and can select the suggested reporting contents applicable to their own sustainability reporting. 

The toolkit is based on current regulation, international instruments such as relevant OECD guidance documents, the GRI Standards, reporting templates such as the RMI’s Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) or the Cobalt Reporting Template (CRT), as well as suggestions made by participants in the GRI-RMI Corporate Leadership Group meetings. Throughout, the toolkit offers examples of current reporting practice and lists of tools that can aid in reporting on due diligence, supportive measures and impacts related to mineral sourcing.

To complement the publication, GRI and RMI are inviting companies and stakeholders to join a webinar on 5 December, at 10am ET / 4pm CET, to discuss the future of reporting on responsible minerals sourcing.
