Led by the Working Group on Peace and Development (FriEnt) and International AlertHosted by the Berlin Climate and Security Conference  Climate change undermines sustainable development, particularly in fragile and conflict affected areas. It threatens the livelihoods of the most vulnerable and can increase social inequalities. In areas where the impacts of climate change have not been and cannot be avoided through adaptation or mitigation measures and is already leading to irreversible economic, cultural and social losses.  The decision to establish a loss and damage fund during CoP27 represents a step forward to achieving climate justice. The new mechanism promises to give financial support to those who have contributed the least to global warming but suffer the most. Indeed, 70% of climate fragile countries are at risk of or in a situation of violent conflict. Register here  Background: On 3 December, CoP28 will feature Peace as a thematic convening day for the firs time in the annual climate change conference's history.  How does Peace connect to climate change policy? What is the impact of climate change on communities already affected by tensions or violent conflict? What adaptation, mitigation, or other natural resource management actions are possible to support the development of resilient individuals, households, and communities? And what can negotiators at CoP28, or decision-makers around the world, do to address these challenges? This year, join The Peace Piece: Primers for Peace at CoP28, a biweekly webinar series designed to answer these questions and explore other topics related to peace, conflict, and climate change. 651d5ff70ecc0
