Humanitarian Response, Conflict and the Environment: Experiences and Lessons (?)

Mar 18, 2025 | EnPAx Interest Group on Climate Change, Disasters, and Resilience
online

Humanitarian Response, Conflict and the Environment: Experiences and Lessons will focus on two main topics. During this first, online, session, on 18 March 2025, the focus will be on lessons learned from the conflicts in Ukraine, Syria, Sudan, Myanmar and the eastern Mediterranean on the interaction of conflict, the environment and humanitarian operations. The session will consider lessons specific to each individual conflict and across all these and other conflicts. This session will be held online, and a summary of the results will feed into a second session (held in person and online on 28 March) that will focus on using the lessons captured in the online session and other experiences to define how to better integrate the environment into crisis responses to improve humanitarian outcomes. Consideration will be given to policy and practical actions to improve humanitarian outcomes, and differentiate, as appropriate, between different types of conflict and humanitarian operational considerations. The second session will produce a short summary of the conclusions for consideration by the humanitarian community.

The sessions are organized as a partnership between the Ukraine Environment Study Group, the International Association for Impact Assessment’s Disaster and Conflict Section, and the Environmental Peacebuilding Association’s Climate Change, Disasters, and Resilience Interest Group.

This online session will be held 18 March @ 15:00 Geneva and 10:00 Washington times.
