American Progress has an immediate opening for a Research Associate to support the China Policy Director. This person will work on a wide range of Chinese and Asian policy issues with a special focus on Chinese energy, climate, and environment policy, as well as strategic issues. The Research Associate will monitor and report on new policy developments in China; draft research reports and position papers; and assist with China program administration. As a member of the Asia team, the Research Associate will also contribute to regional policy analysis and formulation. The Research Associate may carry out administrative and other duties as directed in support of the larger National Security and International Policy team.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct open-source policy, market, and regulatory research in Mandarin Chinese.
- Track policy developments in China and elsewhere in Asia, particularly with regard to energy, climate, and environment policy, as well as China’s policy in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Provide timely updates to support relevant American Progress policy teams.
- Analyze policy trends in China and elsewhere in Asia; outline potential ramifications for the United States and U.S. foreign policy.
- Assist in drafting written products, including talking points, charts, issue briefs, reports, op-eds, columns, and blog posts.
- Support China program administration.
- Support meeting logistics and administrative tasks as required, including meetings and events in China, as well as other international locations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Master’s degree or three years of professional experience in China operations and analysis required.
- Minimum of one year to three years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to conduct open-source research and handle ground logistics in Mandarin Chinese.
- Good to fluent spoken Chinese. Interview process will include a Mandarin-language test.
- Good written Chinese; ability to communicate via email or text is required.
- General knowledge of China’s political system and policy process.
