Afghanistan: University Agribusiness Development Specialist

Provide the critical coordination function for capacity building activities within the Ministry of Higher Education partner universities (Balkh, Kandahar, Khost, Kunduz and Nangarhar) related to establishing an agribusiness degree program to prepare students for the job markets. The position will be located in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan at Balkh University. Key functions will include planning, staff and faculty development, curriculum development, student and faculty assessment, and encouraging industry and university linkages. This capacity building project involves institutions from several countries and funding sources which requires a specialist responsible for facilitating and overseeing all the activities.

Must have the physical capacity to work under conditions including; temperature extremes, potential power outages, the need to navigate through difficult terrain, and the potential for unreliable communications and transportation (including air transportation. Subject to post-offer/pre-employment physical examination and medical screening. Potential danger due to political environment. Person will be stationed in Balkh, Afghanistan.

 

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Agribusiness or related field.
  • Five years' experience in curriculum design, management, agribusiness, strategic planning or related experience.
  • Experience with cross-cultural awareness.
  • Management and supervisory experience, experience building and leading successful teams.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Strong oral and written communication, planning, and public relations skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information and implement solutions.
  • Entrepreneurial and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in software: Microsoft Word and Outlook (Electronic email/Calendaring).
 

Preferred:

  • PhD in Agribusiness or related field.
  • Teaching university agribusiness or related field.
  • Agribusiness curriculum development.
  • Student and faculty assessment.
  • International development.
  • On-the-ground experience in Afghanistan.

  • FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime)
