Plan South Sudan has been responding to the current humanitarian crisis since December 2013, supporting IDPs and vulnerable host communities through its integrated interventions in the areas of Food Assistance, Nutrition, Water, sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE), Education in Emergencies (EiE) and non-food items (NFIs).
We are currently recruiting for a Country Director to act as the sole representative and leader of Plan’s operations in country, who will oversee the development and implementation of strategies at country level in alignment with Plan’s global vision and purpose and with the prevailing context of child rights violations in that country. The Country Director will lead a highly motivated and legally compliant, well-funded programme, ready and able to respond to emergency and development needs of some of the most marginalised children.
Plan’s Programme in South Sudan was established in 2006, initial focus was on the realisation of children’s rights as part of the post-conflict rebuilding process. The first Country Strategic Plan establishes four programmatic priorities:
The Right to Education
The Right to Sustainable Livelihood
Participation of Children in Child Protection
Disaster Risk Reduction, Preparedness and Emergency Response
Candidates should have:
Proven and extensive senior management experience leading complex development programmes
Proven and extensive experience of providing leadership through complex change programs.
Demonstrable knowledge as a result of study, training or practical experience on the key debates in development and emergency response methods and effectiveness;
Knowledge of Sudan; the geopolitical factors affecting child-poverty and the situation of youth in the country and the political, social and environmental opportunities for change is an advantage;
Knowledge of the requirements of donor compliance and financial management;
Type of Role: 3 year fixed term contract
Location: Juba with extensive local (40%) and some international travel
Reports to: Regional Director
